Our History

1970

The Family Legacy: TGC

The Artisans

A family founded this generational company in the late 1970s, becoming pioneers in the trade between the Canadian government and Asia. They established enduring partnerships with leading Asian factories, which enabled them to expand the manufacturing expertise across multiple markets. Following considerable success in Canada, they extended the operations to the United States, specializing in custom furniture for the hospitality industry.

The New Generation

THE CULTURE: Starting as a producer of Italian-made casegoods, Onyx—founded by hospitality veterans—set out to disrupt the industry by addressing gaps in diversity and equity. As the ﬁrst Black-owned supplier of superior quality casegoods, Onyx brings together the most experienced teams, offering creative solutions for every project. Inspired by the natural beauty and longevity of the Onyx gemstone, the company embodies these qualities in both its products and its personnel.
